Dunning-Kruger Effect dan Nasihat Umar

Sumpah, saya malas ngobrolin politik, terutama suasana politik di negara ini menjelang Pilpres dan Pileg 17 April besok. Obrolan politik sekarang ini sudah tidak ada harga dirinya lagi. Dan, terutama, harapan politik orang-orang, termasuk saya, bahkan sudah tidak lagi bisa mengikuti nasehat Pak Nelson Mandela. We are driven by fears.

Tidak perlu lah saya ceritakan di blog ini apa yang terjadi sekarang. Cukup google dengan kata kunci Pilpres 2019, semua akan terpampang jelas. Dari berita receh sampai berita penuh analisa. Di sosmed, tidak ada tempat untuk menarik napas. Twitter, Facebook, bahkan sampai Instagram dan apalagi Whatsapp group isinya hanya itu. Mungkin hanya Pinterest yang bisa jadi tempat pelepas lelah 🙁 .

Pilpres ini, sejak 5 tahun lalu, sejak Pilgub DKI, telah memecah pertemanan sampai persaudaraan. Orang tidak saling kenal saja bisa saling membenci. Dan semua saling tuding siapa yang lebih bersalah. Duh.

Katanya malas ngomong tapi ini sudah 2 paragraf sendiri saya nulis…
Jadi gini, ada satu fenomena yang saya perhatikan di dunia perpolitikan negara ini. Saya menyebutnya fenomena ‘paling’. Kalau gak suka, harus paling gak suka. Paling benci. Paling bego. Paling bener. Paling jahat. Paling suci. Semua harus paling. Politikus A ini paling xyz. Politikus B ternyata paling abc. Tidak mungkin, menurut para pendukung, seorang politikus punya kekurangan sedikit di sana dan kelebihan di sini. Enggak mungkin! Kalau salah, semua salah. Kalau pinter, gak ada yang nyaingi kepintarannya. Paling super! Semua merasa dukungan alam semesta hanya tercurah padanya.

Suatu kali saya membaca postingan teman di FB. Dia merasa hanya jagowannya dan pilihan politiknya yang benar. Dia bahkan sampai sejauh menyuruh orang yang belum sama pilihannya dengan dia untuk bertobat. Tobat lo semua! Ikut gue sekarang lo! Di pihak berseberangan, ya ada juga yang kayak gitu. Membaca postingan dia, saya malah ketawa ngakak sambil mangkel. Ngakak karena menurut saya busyet cyntah elo pede banget bilang diri lo paling bener. Mangkel karena alasan-alasan yang dibeberkan kok ya semua fokus dari kacamata dia. Bila dia bilang dunia ini ijo, setumpuk argumentasi dan bukti ilmiah apa pun tidak akan bisa membuat dia bisa melihat bahwa mungkin ijonya itu ijo kebiruan atau malah biru sekalian. Enggak bisa! Semacam pendukung bumi datar yang kalaupun dibawa naik pesawat ulang aling keliling bumi ya bakal tetap bilang bumi datar dan dia tetap benar.

Dulu-dulunya saya sempat punya kesabaran untuk memberikan perspektif berbeda. Sekadar ngasih informasi terverifikasi bahwa ada pemikiran beda loh. Lama-lama percuma. People only see what they want to see. Kemudian saya sudah melepaskan keinginan untuk memberi informasi berimbang. Selain sia-sia, juga sudah di luar kemampuan kontrol saya.

Sampai kemudian kejadian hari ini.
Saya mendapati ada informasi salah, yang sangat mudah diverifikasi, yang beredar di sebuah grup Whatsapp. Karena rasa peduli saya pada audiens grup ini, saya berusaha memberi informasi berimbang. Tidak memaksa. Hanya meminta membaca. Biar bisa sama-sama belajar, berdiskusi. Bila persepsi tidak berubah, itu urusan masing-masing. Hasilnya? Saya didoakan jelek.

Hmmm….I still can’t make sense of this whole thing…

Saya seperti diingatkan pada nasihat Umar bin Khattab tentang tahapan ilmu. Should have kept my mouth shut.

Betapa pemilu sekarang ini dengan sukses mengeluarkan orang-orang yang terkena sindrom Dunning-Kruger dari sarangnya. Semoga saya bukan salah satunya.
